As a native Bostonian, I never envisioned living in Hawaii. Imagine a bear on the beach. No one believed me when I told them we were moving to the Big Island. I don’t dive, hardly snorkel, burn easily, and unlike 99% of the people who make great sacrifices to relocate here, I was disinclined to live in a geographically remote location, prone to environmental disasters, and with no escape possible. But I’ve fallen in love with the spirit of aloha, the peaceful pace, the turquoise water, the whales and the incredible nature. I love seeing friendly faces every weekend at the farmer’s market and I have never been happier. Thanks Hawaii!
Professionally, I have 15 years experience working in the non-profit sector. I’m currently the Director of Development and Communications for the National Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (HERC), a consortium of 500 colleges and universities. I was the founding director of the New England HERC, housed at Harvard University where I also worked as a project manager on diversity initiatives and on the Task Force on Women in Science and Engineering, both in the Office of the President and Provost. Prior to Harvard, I produced development videos for non-profits, and worked as a Coordinator at WGBH in Boston and at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. I have a masters degree in Non-Profit Management and Media from the Sawyer School of Management at Suffolk University, and a bachelors in Psychology from the Johns Hopkins University. When I grow up, I want to be a clinical psychologist.
During the week, I can be found sporting a hands-free headset in my pjs while working from my home office in the bucolic hills of Waimea, with my sweet dog Nani. On the weekends, my wonderful husband and I are often exploring the majestic beauty of the Big Island of Hawaii.
